A vine pruning course for FELCO employees
Designing, manufacturing and selling quality pruning shears is good, but knowing how to use them, is even better!
This is why some fifteen FELCO staff members recently attended a vine pruning course at the University of Viticulture and Oenology in Changins (VD).
During the morning, the theoretical part allowed the participants to familiarise themselves with the characteristics of the vine, its diseases and the different types of pruning, particularly the Guyot and Cordon systems. It was also an opportunity to discover a specialised vocabulary that is not always easy to grasp.
In the afternoon, despite the gloomy weather, the students of the day went to the vineyard to practice on real vines. Under the supervision of Yves Blondel, Jean-Philippe Burdet, Antoine Boilley and Conrad Briguet, who are all vineyard professionals, the participants learned how to prune correctly. This taught them to regulate the growth of the vine and determine the quality and future quantity of the grapes. Despite the cold drizzle that enveloped the participants there was a great atmosphere and it was a pleasure.
"The exchanges during these meetings are invaluable for understanding the needs of the users of our tools, and we appreciate this long-standing collaboration," emphasises Nabil Francis, CEO of FELCO.
Each year, some FELCO employees attend this course to understand the end use of the tools developed and produced at the Geneveys-sur-Coffrane factory.
